Dr Toyos, Inventor of IPL for Dry Eye

You’ve Been Dismissed. You’ve Tried Everything. Here’s Why Nothing Has Worked Until Now.

If you’ve used drops, gels, or compresses without lasting relief, you’re not alone. You have probably been told it’s “just dry eye” or “part of getting older.” You’ve likely felt unheard and dismissed.

These common treatments may soothe temporarily, but rarely address the underlying causes of Dry Eye Disease. That’s because Dry Eye isn’t simply about a lack of moisture; it’s an inflammatory, systemic condition often linked to meibomian gland dysfunction, hormones, skin conditions, autoimmune issues, and lifestyle factors.

On your free telehealth call, you’ll speak with a practitioner who will take the time to listen, ask the right questions, and guide you toward your next best step. Whether treatment is needed or small changes can make a big difference, we’re here to support you.

The reality: Dry eye has multiple causes, and each one requires a different treatment approach. Without identifying your specific type, treatment is guesswork.

Not All IPL Is Created Equal: Our World-Class Protocol

You may have tried IPL elsewhere and felt disappointed. That’s because most clinics use generic manufacturer settings designed for skin, not for complex eye surface conditions. Our foundation is anchored in the leadership of Dr Rolando Toyos, M.D. (USA).

The Inventor of IPL for Dry Eye

Dr. Toyos didn’t just adopt IPL; he invented and pioneered its use for Dry Eye treatment. His work, refined over 25 years, revolutionised the field of eye care worldwide by targeting meibomian gland dysfunction and addressing the root cause, not just symptoms.

Gold Standard Validation

The Toyos Protocols are the only IPL protocols with FDA approval for Dry Eye and serve as the gold standard of care we deliver to every patient in Australia. We use the OptiLight system, listed on the ARTG (417251) for Dry Eye therapy.

Continuous Clinical Oversight

Our Australian clinical team receives ongoing mentorship and weekly case review input directly from Dr Toyos. This ensures your personalised care aligns with the latest global evidence and best practice.

What Makes Our Approach Different: The Holistic Model

At Dry Eye Solution, we’re setting the standard of care in Australia for Dry Eye treatment. We lead with innovation and compassion, ensuring our patients always receive the highest standard of evidence-based care.

Global Expertise

Direct collaboration with Dr Rolando Toyos, M.D. (USA), the inventor of IPL for Dry Eye and our Centre of Excellence advisor. His ongoing involvement ensures world-class standards at every clinic.

Connected Clinical Team

Your treatment is shaped by a deeply connected team of ophthalmologists, optometrists, and allied health professionals working together. Every plan reflects collective expertise and shared dedication.

Whole-Person Care

We treat the whole person, not just the eyes. Our approach addresses inflammation throughout the body, including diet, lifestyle, stress, hormonal factors, and skin health alongside your eye care.

Locally Delivered, Globally Informed

Every case is reviewed with input from Dr Toyos and our clinical team. You receive care that’s personalised, innovative, and at the forefront of Dry Eye management across 8 Australian clinics.

Your Dry Eye Questions Answered

What is a free telehealth appointment?

A complimentary 15-minute phone call with a trained Dry Eye practitioner. You’ll have space to share your symptoms, ask questions, and get guidance on your options — from in-clinic treatment to home care. There’s no obligation to book further treatment.

Is it really free?

Yes. The 15-minute telehealth call is complimentary. No referral required. Available across Australia.

What is Dry Eye Disease?

Dry Eye Disease is a chronic, inflammatory condition affecting the front surface of the eye. It goes beyond mere dryness, impacting your comfort, visual clarity, and overall quality of life. It occurs when the eyes do not produce enough tears or when the tears evaporate too quickly.

Common symptoms include burning, stinging, grittiness, watery eyes, blurred vision, light sensitivity, and difficulty wearing contact lenses.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book the telehealth call directly, and if you go on to a full assessment, no referral is needed for that either. With your permission, we can send a full report to your regular eye care provider.

What happens if I want to go further after the call?

You can extend your consult and book a full 45-minute in-clinic assessment at whichever of our 8 clinics suits you. Our assessment includes meibography (infrared gland imaging), tear film analysis, inflammation assessment, and a personalised treatment plan.

What is IPL and does it hurt?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses gentle pulses of light to warm and open clogged meibomian glands, reduce inflammation, and restore natural tear balance. Most people describe it as a warm or slightly uncomfortable feeling, but not painful. The procedure is well-tolerated and any discomfort is brief.

Our IPL follows the Toyos Protocols, which are the only IPL protocols with FDA approval for Dry Eye, using the OptiLight system listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods.

Where are your clinics located?

We have 8 specialist clinics: Burwood, Chatswood, Double Bay, Erina (Central Coast), Miranda (Sutherland Shire), Kotara (Newcastle), Parramatta, and Melbourne. All clinics follow the same Toyos Protocols and clinical standards.
